Hospice Education

Specialist palliative care and end of life care training

Hospice Education provides specialist palliative care and end of life care training for health and social care professionals across Essex and Suffolk.

Delivered in partnership by St Helena, St Elizabeth Hospice and Farleigh Hospice, our education programme helps healthcare professionals develop the knowledge, confidence and practical skills needed to support people living with incurable illness, those approaching the end of life, and individuals experiencing bereavement.

We offer a wide range of learning opportunities, including introductory courses, specialist study days, palliative care masterclasses and bespoke workplace training. Courses are available both online and in person to make learning accessible and flexible.

In person training takes place at St Helena's Learning and Development Centre in Colchester and St Elizabeth Hospice's Education Centre in Ipswich.

Palliative care masterclasses

Our monthly palliative care masterclasses provide healthcare professionals with up to date knowledge and practical insights into key palliative care topics.

Previously known as community of practice education sessions, each masterclass focuses on a specific area of end of life care and is delivered online via Microsoft Teams.

Each session includes:

  • A 45 minute expert presentation
  • A 45 minute interactive case study discussion
  • Flexible attendance options, allowing delegates to attend one or both sessions

Places are limited and allocated on a first come, first served basis.

ReSPECT training and resources

What is ReSPECT?

ReSPECT stands for Recommended Summary Plan for Emergency Care and Treatment.

The ReSPECT process supports conversations between individuals, families and healthcare professionals about future care preferences and emergency treatment decisions.

By recording a person's wishes and clinical recommendations, ReSPECT helps ensure that care decisions align with what matters most to them, particularly during an emergency when they may be unable to communicate those preferences.

Care Home Accreditation

Demonstrating excellence in end of life care

The Care Home Accreditation Award supports care homes and care agencies that wish to strengthen and demonstrate high standards of palliative and end of life care.

Achieving Hospice Education accreditation shows residents, families, healthcare professionals and commissioners that your organisation is committed to delivering compassionate, high-quality care.

Benefits include:

  • Recognition of best practice
  • Improved confidence and competence among staff
  • Enhanced quality of end of life care delivery
  • Professional accreditation from a trusted hospice education provider
