This downloadable document contains a whole host of links to end of life resources in north east Essex and across the UK. This includes videos with frequently asked questions answered by local professionals, important contact telephone numbers for local support services and where to find grief and bereavement support.

How you can help others to plan ahead

You can help others plan ahead by raising awareness of the My Care Choices Register – a record of a person’s decisions about the kind of care they wish to receive in the future, if they were more unwell, and their preference for the place of care. We work with other local health and social care partners to promote this to people who are living with an incurable illness, dementia or frailty.

We recommend listening to this inspiring podcast, dedicated to talking to experts and others about all aspects of death and dying. You know, that thing we don’t really want to talk about! As a hospice carer and former psychiatric nurse, as well as writer and former theatre director, Jason Cattrell invites guests to talk about their roles and what to expect in the last four weeks of life.

What happens to the person dying, what help is there, what to do before and after the event. Many families we see have one thing in common, and that is that they don’t know what to expect. Jason thought that a podcast may help. The podcast also explores many other topics, such as alternative funerals, what do hospices actually do? What role does religion play?
